World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Patch 9.2 has finally arrived, and new or returning players have several things to do before they’re ready to head to Zereth Mortis.
Players are heading into the final stretch of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. The launch of Patch 9.2, Eternity’s End, will bring the eighth expansion of World of Warcraft to a close. Eternity’s End introduces players to the sprawling new zone of Zereth Mortis; ripe with fresh quests, foreign enemies, and intriguing new systems.
In addition to this zone, players are also gaining access to thrilling features to carry them into the final phase of this expansion. Such features will include double legendries for characters, access to the end raid Sepulcher of the First Ones, a new PvP arena set in the Maldraxxian coliseum, and the exciting return of tier sets. However, before players can enjoy this enticing content, there are a few things they’ll need to accomplish first.
Off to The Maw We Go
The journey into the Shadowlands begins at level 48 for our heroes. Highlord Darion Mograine requests that players return to their faction capital in the quest “A Chilling Summons”. If your character is level 50, and you have completed the Maw introduction on another character beforehand, either High Inquisitor Whitemane -for Alliance- or Nazgrim -for Horde- will offer you the chance to skip and send you straight to Oribos.
However, if you’re not level 50, you’ll have a few more steps to take before you reach Oribos. Jaina Proudmoore also offers players an additional skip after completing the quest “A Flight From Darkness.”
This, like the skip before, is only available to players at level 50. Then it’s on to Oribos.
A Brief Layover in Oribos
Oribos is the grandiose heart of the Shadowlands, a sanctuary for Horde and Alliance during their time in the afterlife. Fatescribe Roh-Tal welcomes players to this hub and offers the returning players a choice. The first option is Threads of Fate, which bypasses the main storyline quests and grants immediate access to covenants. The second option is the 9.0 storyline, which requires players to go through the content from start to finish.
A Renowned Hero
It’s most convenient for all players to get at least one character to Renown 80 before they level any alternative characters. Renown 80 brings a few useful perks to make leveling far smoother as players head into Shadowlands. One such perk comes from Au’Dara, an heirloom broker located directly behind the flight master in Oribos. The Broker Mark of Distinction rewards characters an automatic standing at Renown 40 with their current covenant. The item is available for purchase for 500 gold, is bound to a Blizzard account, and is instantly applicable. The Incense of Infinity, available at level 60, gifts players all conduits available to their class at item level 200. Just like the first item Au’Dara sells, it is bound to the Blizzard account.
Chapters one and two of a covenant campaign can be skipped if a player has completed this campaign before. This grants immediate access to Korthia and the Chains of Domination questline. However, chapter four of this content does require the completion of the chosen covenant storyline. Korthia also offers a skip for returning players to push them through the first three chapters. However, accepting this skip will mean losing the rewards those chapters offer.
Legen- Wait For It… Dary
The last -and in some ways most- significant goal to work towards is the character’s legendary. For beginning players, an NPC known as the Runecarver crafts items called legendaries. These provide a power boost to characters by enhancing or modifying existing class abilities.
Crafting characters’ legendary armor pieces requires several key components. One such item is soul ash, obtained by completing levels of the roguelike dungeon Torghast. Players can craft their armor piece, or purchase it and the stat missives their class requires on the in-game auction house. Last, but not least, will be the legendary power itself. This power is both class and spec-specific and acquired as a “Memory” through various forms of in-game content. Patch 9.2 introduced the ability for players to wield two legendaries; the second legendary players receive comes from their character’s covenant. Players receive the item for this legendary during the main storyline of Patch 9.2.
A Journey’s End
With Patch 9.2, Eternity’s End, the latest installation of World of Warcraft is coming to a close. Shadowlands has given players a journey of unique questing zones, otherworldly enemies, and powers beyond the realm of Azeroth. Following this guide should find all players, new and returning, ready to face the Jailer for the fate of all creation.

Happy questing to all, Horde and Alliance alike. For Azeroth!
I’m a Wonder Woman fanatic -married to my Superman- with a mild addiction to tea and World of Warcraft. One day I hope to write a book that history recognizes as a classic; it will most likely involve dragons.
