In celebration of Earth Day, I had a look at what games promote that eco-warrior vibe. Earth Day marks the birth of the environmental movement in the 1970s. Additionally, it’s the perfect day to reflect on how we can all make the world that little bit greener and more eco-friendly. Join me as we count down on five games that are perfect for Earth Day.
5. Ecco The Dolphin

Ecco the Dolphin is a game that should evoke the inner child of several gamers worldwide. On Earth Day it’s important to reflect on this underwater classic which saw players control a cheerful dolphin named Ecco. The game is not overly preachy to all matters eco-friendly but does provide that overall arching theme of protecting our marine life. Ecco had a generation of children keen on protecting the seas. The opening level of the game features a scary situation where all the sea life is vacuumed up and Eccho remains alone in the sea. However, with the difficulty of this action-adventure it’s difficult to gauge if it made some players fear the ocean. Check out the trailer below and witness the marine wildlife positivity.
4. Ori and The Blind Forrest

Ori and the blind Forrest is a prime example of an all-around eco-friendly and green focussed game. The game’s main aim is to restore a dying magical forest. This adventure platformer has heart-wrenching scenes, powerful artwork, and a great feel to the game. Deforestation is such an alive and relevant topic in the fight to promote eco friendliness and preserve the Earth.
3. Plasticity

Plasticity is charming yet thought-provoking puzzle sim in regards to a city overrun with plastic rubbish. The issue of plastic swarming the earth’s oceans and landscapes is a very relevant subject. The game requires you to make choices and finalize decisions which will in turn help decide whether or not the landscape in-game will be plastic-free. The game is currently free on steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/1069360/Plasticity/ and was developed by a group of students. Perfect time to show support this Earth Day by checking the game out.
2. Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII had a plot that centered round the destruction of the planet through pollution. The main protagonist was tasked with helping a band of Eco Warriors nicknamed Avalanche preserve the earth. Of course, along the way, there were other aspects of the story which led to the story changing. However, the main theme of a greener world was prevalent throughout. As a result of this, Final Fantasy VII is a game that should be added to the list of games perfect to play on Earth Day.

Biomutant follows a customizable furry friend that specializes in a martial arts-styled combat system. It also features cool guns, mutant fights, and exciting mounts to traverse the beautiful world. However, the game has made it on this list due to its story of a plague ruining the land (similar to pollution) and the “Tree of Life” that has held the land dying. It features politics from neighboring tribes and several areas becoming inhabitable due to the planet effectively dying. As a result of this, this game made it on my list for Earth Day. It’s hard not to pay attention to the planet and reflect on the Earth’s own demise when it’s presented in such a colorful and thought-provoking game. Check out the trailer below for a chance to form your own opinion on the game.
