Running the restaurant
The way a restaurant looks in Recipe for Disaster is vital to the popularity and profits of a restaurant. There are several options on how to decorate the restaurant. This ranges from how the walls are decorated, to how many tables and chairs are present in the seating area. As a result, the decoration may please or displease the customers and staff. It’s important to utilize the ambience overlay tool which helps maximize design and allow the design to act as a catalyst to sky rocket popularity. Designing a restaurant comes with additional challenges. It can be challenging to be envision a design and then decorate it only to find out that, due to space or suitability, it’s not feasible.
Selecting the menu can be a monumental task. It is increasingly intricate. The player must actively choose whether or not the recipes on the menu will be grilled, oven baked, or deep fried. Additionally, the player must select which image will refer to the item on the menu. Having a successful menu ensures popularity which is an important aspect of a restaurants success in the game.
Recipe for Disaster has an interesting and in-depth Staff recruitment process. Moreover, each applicant that is presenting as a candidate has different traits and skills. Depending on the needs of the restaurant, it’s good to deliberate this. Once a candidate is recruited then its important to assign them to tasks that they aren’t going to find frustrating. Assigning an employee to something that they don’t enjoy or struggle with may cause them to have a complete collapse. The employee will be found on the floor in a quivering mess and mumbling incoherently. This can impact the ratings, no one wants to be dining out and be waiting on their food only to witness an employee on the floor.
Employees add to the Title Recipe for Disaster. Employees are extremely accident prone and will set the kitchen ablaze at every opportunity. Make sure fire extinguishers are on stand by! Additionally, some employees will be better at their job and excel in different areas, but others might pose a variety of problems that will leave you stuck with the choice of firing them. The upside of firing them like in any management role is you can make way for better staff. Keeping an eye on recruitment costs is important too. As a result, some of the better and more skilled staff require a higher wage. It’s important the player explores whether this will impact on profits and losses.
Lastly, focusing on desirable skills in your employees is a sure way to increase the popularity of your restaurant. Charisma, serving, and cleaning are very desirable ones for waiting employees and for the cooks it should be a focus on fryer, grill, oven, and stove.
The campaign is currently on early access and features 5 levels in the campaign with different challenges arising for each new level. Recipe for Disaster stays true to its name in the campaign. Level 1 titled Sloppy Joes allows a brief introduction to the player and permits them to ease into the campaign. The conditions for this level were to have 5 seated tables at the same time, serve 8 tables and have an income of 150 from food in a single day. This is manageable for an introduction level. However, there is a loss condition and this is if the restaurant falls below 30% popularity. This allows for the player to prepare for the difficulty that may ensue in different levels.
The second level does ramp up and increase in pace. The conditions of the second level are to serve 30 tables, earn 1,800 and achieve 45% popularity. Learning from the previous level allows the player to improve their restaurant. By this point the player will have started to connect the dots about how best to have successful tables, having productive staff and how to maintain popularity. The game does give the player time to develop a playstyle that works best for the objectives and for them.
Additionally, there are three different levels available to the player. As a result of this, it allows for quite an active and lengthy campaign for a game still in its early access stage. It leaves the player wondering what else will be in store when the final release of the game hits Steam.
