The Razer Kitty Ear USB and Bluetooth Headsets are adorable but are they functional?
The gaming headset of every kitty-kat lover’s dream is the Razer Kitty Ear Headset. Adorable in every sense, with its soft pink color accented with white and grey linings.
Is it all really about looks?

Noise Cancellation and THX.
The Razer Kitty Ear USB and Bluetooth headsets have about the same specs, see basic specs in the photo below. Noise cancellation is a feature of both headsets. As well as THX Spatial Sense which works just about as well as the Windows Sonic for Headphones. The Microphone itself has a decent range of detection but does cause issues with voice leveling or catching voices that are on the softer side. There is a mute button located on the tip of the microphone for the USB, and a button on the BT ear cup.
All Ears

Volume controls as well as THX Spatial controls are in-line on the earcup, very convenient for quick control. The earcup itself is over-exaggerated in size. The Chroma lighting makes up most of the weight of the headset. The Chroma lighting button along the bottom side of the earcup allows for quick basic control of the lights, more customization options are available in the Chroma Suite from Razer. Razer has an arrangement of different Chroma options available, that includes control over the pulsation speed. The Chroma lighting is also available in ‘Cosplay Mode’ where you can attach the USB to a power bank for the USB headset, or Chroma Button for Bluetooth. This option allows you to take your lights on the go!
Lights Camera, Cosplay
The lining of the earcup is the same material that is used on the inside lining of the headband as well, a ”leatherette” material which most of the ex-Razer-Users have nothing but complaints over. This material breaks down quickly and flakes, you’ll find pieces in your hair, in your ear, and all around your gaming section, while this is a problem, Razer does offer new earcups for purchase through their website. The ear cups are semi-comfortable, as they do offer cooling gel inserts to keep a hot head cool, the oversized ear cups feel soft and squishy. The downside of the soft and squishy ear cups, it feels like it dampens the sound coming from the headset.

With great weight, comes great responsibility.

This headset, BT, or USB comes in at a hefty weight for a headset. Coming in at almost a full pound, this headset will come sliding off of your head. This is probably one of the heaviest gaming headsets I’ve worn to date. It compares to a wired Studio headset, something you would use in an audio room, not in a gaming environment. For those using the wired USB headset, be wary of your length and if you have any pets… Well, good luck to you.
Overall Impression
I’ve had my Kitty Ears for around two years now, and every couple of weeks something new goes wrong with it. From the cable coming loose inside the ear cup, to the chroma button getting stuck inside of the ear cup. All the way to the quality of sound, which grates and hisses the moment one of your wires sense fear. I’ve found shreds of the ear cup across my house, which has made wearing them almost unbearable unless I purchase new cups. You ‘can’ replace the USB wire but it’s not easy, nor is it a cheap alternative. As a glasses wearer, I loved that the ear cups allowed for me to be comfortable while wearing the headset. There was no extra squeeze or pressure along the ears/temples that could cause glasses pain. The downside to the weight of the headset also comes in fear for glasses wearers as well. When the headset comes slipping off forwards, it can take your glasses with it if you are not careful and quick. For the price of 165 USD (216 CDN) on Razer, or 126 USD (169 CDN) on Amazon. You can definitely get yourself a great headset, and help out an Etsy artist by buying some 3D printed, or modeled horns/ears and more!
