Grab your Switch, get some friends because the next Generation of Pokémon has some new features. We will see some familiar, new Pokémon of course and it appears that these new games have some new twists on old games.
Pokémon Arceus took the fandom by storm with its mostly open world game style and new game mechanics. Nintendo was listening from the fans of Arceus, as the opening games for Gen 9 are more Open World. You can sneak up on Pokémon, throw Pokéballs without battling or you can battle wild Pokémon to weaken them, then catch them.
Known Gameplay Mechanics
As stated above, Pokémon Scarlet/Violet is fully open world. You can explore the new land in any way you want. Areas are not dictated by the story, as in previous games. You will always see the Pokémon in the world, no surprise battles.
Another feature of the game is the new multiplayer. Before you had to connect for battles and trades. Now not only can you still do that, but explore the land together, battle alongside one another. Nintendo has added this multiplayer feature which allows you and up to three other friends, to play.
One difference with the trading this time around, you see the Pokéballs fly in the air with a smoke trail, the ball fades to an outline and you see the Pokémon inside that are being traded.
The Main Characters depicted outfits are based on which version of the game you are playing.
Nintendo has also added two professors. While there are two, Turo and Sada, which professor you have also depends on which game you are playing.
Professor Sada is Pokémon Scarlet while Professor Turo is Pokémon Violet. Both have lore passed down, different from each other.
The Last character to introduce is Nemona. Nemona is the rival, your character’s friend. She is listed as an excellent trainer, but bad at throwing Poké balls. She appears to be an uplifting rival friend.
Your friend, Nemona, has a sunny and energetic disposition, and she absolutely loves Pokémon battles. She’s an experienced Pokémon Trainer and serves as a reliable guide for you on your adventures. She has undisputed skill in battle—though it does also seem that she’s not the best at throwing Poké Balls.https://scarletviolet.pokemon.com/en-us/characters/
Classic Nintendo, sticking with the usual trio for starters. We have Sprigatito as grass, Fuecoco as fire and Quaxly as water.
Sprigatito is the Grass cat Pokémon standing 1’4″. It weighs nine pounds and its ability is Overgrow. It is listed as capricious and attention seeking. Apparently it could sulk if its trainer pays attention to other Pokémon. When it kneads and rubs with its forepaws, a sweet aroma is released. The aroma mesmerizes those around, and stated to have therapeutic qualities. This aroma can also make opponents lose their will to battle. The composition of its fur is similar to that of plants. By absorbing sunlight it creates its own energy. Grooming its fur aids its ability to photosynthesize.
Fuecoco is the Fire Croc Pokémon, standing at 1’4″. It weighs 21.6 pounds with its Ability being Blaze. Fuecoco appears to love food, always sprinting towards it. It also likes to go at its own pace. The square on its stomach and back, is a scale. These scales absorb heat that is converted into energy. The scales are always warm and can sometimes get very hot. The top of Fuecoco’s head is actually where the fire energy leaks. When this Pokémon gets excited, its head sprouts more flames.
Quaxly is the Duckling Pokémon standing at 1’8″ and weights 13.4 pounds. Its ability is Torrent. It looks glossy because it is covered in gel, secreted from the feathers. This allows Quaxly to repel water and grime. The coif on its head is slicked back using a cream which becomes unkempt when dry. This Pokémon has strong legs to swim freely, even in strong currents. In battle, it kicks its opponents swiftly and repeatedly.
The Legendary Pokémon
Koraidon will be in Pokémon Scarlet, with Miraidon in Pokémon Violet. These two Pokémon are said to be much more powerful than any other Pokémon. There has been no other details on Koraidon or Miraidon.
Pawmi is the Mouse Pokémon, standing at exactly 1′. It weighs 5.5 pounds and its ability is the static/natural cure. This Pokémon is the electric type. Pawmi stores electricity in its cheeks, but has Electricity-Discharging Organs on its forepaws. Rubbing its cheeks, it generates electricity and then shocks opponents by touching them with the pads on its forepaws. Apparently its fur also stores electricty, but mostly good for insulation against the cold.
Lechonk is the Hog Pokémon, standing at 1’8″. It weighs 22.5 pounds and its ability is the Aroma Veil/Gluttony. This Pokémon is a normal type. Lechonk only eats the most fragrant wild grasses and the richest berries. it finds these using is great sense of smell. Lechonk radiates an aroma resembling herbs that bug Pokémon dislike, curtesy of Lechonk’s eating habits. When startled by an opponent, this Pokémon will charge forward. The size of this pig is mostly due to its body being mostly muscle. These muscles are from walking around all the time, searching for food.
Smoliv is the Olive Pokémon, standing at 1′. it weighs 14.3 pounds and its ability is Early Bird. This Pokémon is the Grass/Normal type. The oil that comes from its head is very bitter and not good for consumption. When startled or attack, Smoliv shoots this oil out. This slows enemies down, while it takes the chance to run. The fruit on Smoliv’s head stores the oil. This oil is made from nutrients through photosynthesis. This allows Smoliv to go a week without eating or drinking. This Pokémon likes sunny and dry climates, spending most of its days sunbathing.
