Rejoice, demigods! A ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ television series has been ordered by Disney+. Rick Riordan, the author of the beloved YA book series, made the announcement Tuesday on the streaming platform’s official Youtube channel. Riordan shared his excitement with fans about, not just the series coming to life, but also the talented James Bobin (The Mysterious Benedict Society) who will be directing the pilot episode.
“James knows the Percy Jackson books well. Also, his kids are fans, so we’re in good hands,” Riordan said in his message to the fans. You can check out the full announcement below.
Riordan is set to co-write the pilot episode along with Black Sails writer, Jon Steinberg.
The author has been working with Disney for almost two years now to develop this pilot. We’re hoping it’s going to be worth the wait.
The last time these characters shared a screen was in the 2010 and 2013 movies; Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters staring Logan Lerman as the title character.
You can stream The Lightning Thief now on Disney+.
There has been no official release date announced, though rumors say a 2023 premier.
One thing’s for sure, we’re excited to be heading back to Camp Half-Blood!
