Just when you think all was going to be quiet on the world of gaming for a few moments – surprise! NetherRealm Studios announced a continuation of the Mortal Kombat 11 saga with Aftermath, a new DLC pack that will arrive on May 26th.
With it, we’ll get a new story arc that ties up the loose ends left from the main story, with Shang Tsung playing a central part. But we’ll also get a gaggle of additional content, including Friendships (Friendships?!), new arenas and other goods.
However, we’ll also get three characters added to the roster. Sheeva and Fujin are once again added into the mix. And now – there’s Robocop.
Come Quietly or There Will Be Trouble
As you can see from the trailer below, the classic 80’s hero is back in action. What’s more, Peter Weller, who portrayed the crime fighter in his first two films, will return to the role, providing him enough life to deliver fatalities to would-be assailants.
More importantly, though, the Aftermath expansion will once again give us the opportunity to see the match-up that we haven’t seen in gaming in nearly three decades now – Robocop vs. the Terminator.
You may recall a little while back when Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 joined the roster for the hit fighting game, complete with all of his killer moves in check. Now, with Robocop joining the party, they’ll be able to square off again.
Let’s Head Back To the ’90s
The last time we saw these two forces face off, it was with Virgin Interactive’s Robocop vs. The Terminator, based on the comic book series of the same name. The SNES game was average at best. However, the Sega Genesis version is spectacular, with just the right amount of tight gameplay and crazy bloodshed. Along with that, Tommy Tallarico produced a great soundtrack for it, and the boss encounters are nothing short of epic. We’ve included gameplay below, just in case you’re feeling nostalgic.
It’s been ages since we’ve seen a good game to feature either the Terminator or Robocop, so seeing them resurface in Mortal Kombat 11 to settle the score is really something else. It’s almost enough to have Warner Bros. take care of the rights and re-release the Genesis version of Robocop vs. The Terminator just to introduce it to a new generation. Maybe?

In the meantime, you can track down this game in most used game shops (the ones that are open), or maybe on eBay. It’s well worth your time if you’re into old-school action with a lot of robo-violence. And it’ll get you primed for Aftermath when it arrives later this month for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
We’d buy that for a dollar.
