Dreamy Fun For All Ages
Lunistice developed by Grumpy Fox, is a high speed platformer. The graphics induce nostalgia due to looking like early psone era. In this day and age it’s good to sometimes return to this simplicity and enjoy the game-play and the content. Join us here at VIBE as we review and see whether Lunistice is worth checking out.
Story

A grumpy Fox brings to life Hana, an adorable Tanuki who traverses through what are deemed dreamscapes to reach the moon. The secret of Lunistice is on the moon and Hana must uncover this. The story presents as incredibly simplistic and is only unlocked through documents.
One of the newest games in this trend is Lunistice from game devs A Grumpy Fox. A 3D platformer that seems to take cues from Sonic, you play as Hana the Tanuki as she runs, jumps, and twirls through several dreamscapes while on her way to the moon, where she hopes to solve the mystery of Lunistice. In terms of the story, it is as simple as that on the surface. The story does not have a linear direction. Thus, resulting in the player brainstorming their own ideas. As a result of this, the story does not take away from the game play allowing the player to fully immerse and dive into that.
Game Layout

Lunistice boasts stage selection. Each stage holds different challenges such as new obstacles or harder platforming sections. As a result of this, it invoked a sense of nostalgia due to having a similar layout as various psone games. Additionally, the graphics also hold a nostalgic impact as they follow the vibe of psone era. This is not necessarily a bad thing as we all know, nostalgia sells!!
Difficulty

Like most platformers, definitely has that challenging element. However, it’s not too complicated that players aren’t experiencing the enjoyability factor. There are several stages where players must control a cute tanuki. The goal is to collect origami paper cranes and avoid falling off edges or enemies actively attacking you. The player has a health bar featured in the top left, this can begin to disappear if the player is hit by enemies, if they fall off the edge or they hit an obstacle. The only way to recharge this health bar is to travel through a Torri gate. Therefore, the Torri gates act as checkpoints.
Affordable

Steam currently has Lunistice at £4.99 which is a great bargain! Players should jump at the chance to purchase this enjoyable adventure. Hours of countless fun combined with flawless mechanics does promote an affordable experience. It goes to show that not all games with enjoyable content and replayability need to have a large price tag.
Ratings and Replayability

As pictured above there is a grading system for each stage/level. As a result of this, players can attempt stages multiple times to gain a better score. The scoring is based on how many origami cranes collected, how many times you had to respawn, and the time taken to finish the level. Therefore, having that element of challenge and replay-ability results in a better rounded game.
Delightful to look at

Boasting several different stages and initially several different worlds Lunistice is delightful to look at. A combination of vibrant colors and cleverly designed levels have the player reveling in a 32 bit daydream. The enemy design isn’t too overly complicated and some of the enemies feature adorable cutesy faces. Additionally, the worlds leave you in a sweet daydream wondering where you will be transported next. As a result of this, the nostalgic feeling of the graphics help players indulge their inner early gamer and relive the glory days of their favorite consoles on next gen.
