With Rainbow Six Siege continuing to be successful on the competitive front, we were a bit concerned that Ubisoft wouldn’t break away with something new in the formula. Then we started hearing about a project called Quarantine, and how it would be quite different. Well, after today’s reveal at the Ubisoft Forward presentation for E3, we finally have an idea of what’s in store. We won’t say it’s aliens…but it’s totally aliens.

The tactical first-person shooter Rainbow Six Extraction made its premiere today, and it introduces a number of operators, as well as the type of devious fiends that you have to take down before they get you. The trailer below gives you a good idea of what’s in store, and this ain’t an ordinary round of Siege.
What’s interesting is how a mission can change with the introduction of dangerous foes. For instance, in the gameplay, featured below, soldiers attempt to rescue one of their own, who’s been wrapped up in some kind of trap. However when they do so, they come face to face with an Apex, a creature that’s not going down as easily as they’d hope. That, combined with whatever else comes their way, will force them to think quickly as they try to work together and survive.
Up to three players can join a team at the same time, including a variety of favorite operators such as Ela, Ash and Hibana, amongst others. It looks to be a real treat online; and judging by the sound of things, Ubisoft could continue providing long-term support for it, just as they’re doing with Siege and cross-play support, which will happen next year. (Extraction will get it day one, across all platforms.)

The gameplay doesn’t nearly last long enough, but it does give us an idea of what’s in store. Don’t call this Left 4 Dead with aliens, as this is clearly a Rainbow Six experience. (And maybe don’t call it Quarantine either – it’s been a rough year for all of us.)
Rainbow Six Extraction will arrive on September 16th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. We’ll see how well it performs when a beta takes place later this summer. So…who wants to fry some aliens?!
