Fashion Police SQUAD from Mopeful Games boasts a new and stylish take on the FPS genre. Join Des, a witty and fashion orientated police sergeant, as he navigates a treacherous city full of fashion faux pas. Released in August 2022, this Indie FPS has attracted gamers from the get go; receiving positive reviews on steam and other platforms. Positive First Impressions
Fashion Police SQUAD entices players from the moment they select the difficulty for the game. The fashion related difficulty options allow for a humorous introduction. I had to think carefully when selecting. I felt like I wasn’t entirely sure about which options to go for as despite being familiar with the FPS genre, this felt new. Additionally, the game had been sold to me as a challenge compared to other FPS’. I approached with caution and went for Fashion is my passion!
Fun Filled Fighting
The game-play was definitely on the intriguing side. The objective of the game is to tackle enemies with a shotgun style gun that transforms them into fashion forward individuals. Furthermore, there are quirky and unique objects along the way to aid you. The main aim really is to rid the world of any fashion faux-pas. For example, pictured above is individuals who have been transformed into fresh suited and booted heroes of modern day society. However, before they wore drab dull suits. Personally, being able to blast someone with a splash of colour was almost cathartic and beats the usual blood, guts and gore. (Important to note, no slander of the gutsy games! We love them too.) In terms of story, Fashion Police SQUAD heads down a good and succinct route. However, some players may find it extremely random. It’s easy to guess though that this game was focused on game-play rather than a serious and narrative story.
Additionally, as the game progresses the player unlocks other items to aid their combat and to rid the world of anything unpleasing to the eye in terms of fashion. For example, after the player has progressed they find themselves with a full arsenal to keep them occupied. Ranging from belts, scissors and other fashion accessories. Armour presents in the form of swag as pictured above and adds that extra shield to the player. It’s quirky additions like this that shape this unique gem in the FPS world.
Gorj Graphics
The graphics for Fashion Police Squad are quirky and loud. Therefore, creating a colorful and vibrant world to explore. The use of pixelated designs creates a retro gaming feel but incorporating the 3D avenue really brings the game up to a spot in the modern day graphics. Character icons complement this theme as they are full of detail and capture the personality and punch each character delivers. Overall, the characters added to the games enjoyability as their humor, wit, sarcasm, and commentary on the story was enough to keep players entertained. Additionally, the soundtrack was upbeat and really added to the fast paced game-play. As a result, players felt motivated and enthusiastic to continue.
Difficulty Discussion
The game offers a level of difficulty that players may not expect. Sometimes enemies swarm and can leave the player increasingly overwhelmed. Difficulty often came from the different enemy types. The game offers a variety of different enemy types that pose different difficulties and different solutions to attacking them. The player will cycle through a variety of weapons before settling on the most appropriate for the fight.
