The last time we saw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles try their hands at a retro reboot, we got…well, whatever the heck TMNT: Turtles In Time Re-Shelled was. But fret not, old-school gamers. Dotemu has exactly what you need.
The publishers of Streets of Rage 4 have just announced that they’re bringing back the Ninja Turtles in the best way possible – with a retro beat-em-up channeling the classic 1989 Konami game! Titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, the game is a four-player tour-de-force where you take on Foot Clan soldiers and bosses like Bebop and Rocksteady as you fight to stop the dreaded Shredder.
The game is developed by the team at Tribute Games, in conjunction with Nickelodeon. In case you’re not familiar with their work, they previously made Mercenary Kings and Flinthook. So you know they have retro style figured out. Plus, the studio’s co-founders, Jonathan Lavigne and Justin Cyr, did previously work on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
The trailer is below, but here’s the official plot line straight from the devs:
“With Bebop and Rocksteady amassing gizmos to support Krang and Shredder’s latest scheme, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge finds the turtles battling through a breathless tour of iconic TMNT locations to thwart their nemeses’ most diabolical plan yet. Armed with shell-shocking new abilities built on a foundation of classic brawling mechanics, the gang are in for an exhilarating, Foot Clan-stomping romp leading them through the sewers and bustling boroughs of New York City all the way to Dimension X.”

Shredder’s Revenge doesn’t currently have a release date, but it’s expected for all major consoles and PC. We’ll let you know when more details are available.
One thing’s for sure, though. It should be a shell of a good hit.
