For years we’ve been wondering why Sega hasn’t done something new in the Jet Set Radio franchise. Didn’t sell enough copies? Doesn’t “fit” into the mantra of today’s modern gaming scene? Couldn’t get a rad soundtrack to go along with it? Whatever the case, the lack of a new game in the franchise is mind-boggling.
But fret not. Team Reptile is stepping up to the plate with a spiritual successor that’ll make its way to game platforms this year. Titled Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, the game puts you in the shoes of various extreme types that make their way across the city, performing tricks and causing mayhem with each step they take.
The game is loaded with more tricks than Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater could shake a stick at. But on top of that, there’s more than one way to get around. Along with being able to scoot along on inline skates, you can also try your luck on a traditional skateboard, as well as a BMX bike. That makes this a futuristic extreme sports extravaganza. And one, might we add, that looks a hell of a lot like a modern Jet Set Radio game.
A new teaser provides a close look at the game in action, and it’s very satisfying thus far. Not to mention that it seems like the soundtrack will be aligned with what made Jet Set so great. That’s awesome for an indie team, so we can’t wait to hear more.
Though the game doesn’t have a release date, it’s set to arrive this year for Switch and PC first, with “other consoles” to follow shortly thereafter.
