Bringing the joy of being a giant monster to your home, Block Buster is an incredibly fun, chaotic game where destruction is only the beginning.
Block Buster: Kaiju Rampage Sim

In Block Buster, you’ll play as several giant monsters attacking different locations. It really can only be accurately described as kicking down someone’s building blocks. It is both simple, and extremely satisfying. As someone who has a younger sibling, there is something primal about destroying what someone else has built. What’s even better is that it’s destruction with a purpose!
As you make you’re way through each location, mowing down everything in your path, you’ll find collectibles hidden throughout. Even parts to unlock other monsters (we’ll get to that in a bit). However, the townspeople aren’t just gonna panic and run away (though most do). They call in the military to fight back.
Tanks, planes, and even battleships will shoot and launch missiles and otherwise do everything they can to stop you. Except, you’re a giant monster; and giant monsters got powers to unleash! You’ll start with being a giant radioactive lizard, and we all know giant radioactive lizards can breathe radioactive laser breath.
All that power uses a lot of energy, and I hear you asking, “where do kaiju get energy?” From eating the townspeople of course! Chase the panicking cars and running people and pick them up to your head to eat them, gaining size and energy. Then you can use your larger size and powers, as well as the blocks from buildings to destroy the enemies attacking you.

Crafting With Kaiju

Attacking cities is a fun time, but sometimes kaiju need a little down time. Don’t worry, Block Buster has you covered! In your home, you’ll be able to do lots of things. You can use currency to win figures to spruce up your bedroom. Check out the map layout of the different locations and maybe plan your next attack. You can also assemble new costumes, once you have all the parts. This is how you’ll unlock new monsters to play as. Once you have collected all the parts in the different areas, you can assemble them in a minigame in your bedroom. It’s a unique way to unlock new characters, and even change their colors!
It’s one of the most interesting ways of getting new playable characters I’ve seen in a while. It will require keeping a keen eye, and sometimes multiple runs through the cities to get all the parts. Even after all that, you still have to assemble each part, adding to the sense of ownership for each character. You’ll really feel like you earned it, and with your new giant monster costume ready, it’s on to the next area and more destruction!
Simple And Satisfying

Block Buster is a game of contradictions. It’s both relaxing and chaos. It’s cathartic in all the best ways: like having a rage room in your own home. As one of my best friends says, “sometimes, people just wanna smash stuff.” This is true.
While Block Buster has the ability to be played sitting down, the movement is a little clunky until you get used to it and it’s a little hard to turn on a dime with the thumb sticks. It’s really meant to be played in an open area where you can just walk and turn on your own. It’s energy intensive and from all the people I’ve played it with, you get really into it, so be careful to not be around breakables in your home.
The gameplay is relatively simple, but the costume building is one of my favorite unexpected features (your opinion may vary), and there is enough collectibles to keep completionists happy. Block Buster will be my “go to” game on tough days, because, sometimes, people just wanna smash stuff.
