E3 2021 is taking a digital approach this year; and while that’s a bummer for some, it’ll be home to a number of big reveals from Nintendo, Microsoft, Bethesda, Ubisoft and more. However before that happens, there’s another big gaming event that’s set to begin!
Originally announced last month, the Summer Game Fest 2021 will begin on Thursday, June 10th, with a kick-off just a mere two days before the E3 showcase. Produced and hosted by the Video Game Awards’ own Geoff Keighley (who broke away from the expo to do his own thing), it’ll be a showcase packed with “spectacular world premieres” and other surprises, along with an appearance by the band Weezer and one of the greatest movie stars out there, Jeff Goldblum. (Don’t bother arguing with us, you won’t win.)
Kick Off Live! begins at 2 PM EDT on the 10th, with all the action live over on the official Summer Game Fest site. And considering all the companies partnering with the Fest, you’ll see a number of big reveals. These include Sony, with its PlayStation brand; along with Sega, 2K Games, Blizzard Entertainment and a number of others. In fact, the full list of companies can be seen below.
Oh, and we mentioned Weezer, right? Well, relax, this won’t be a Metallica at BlizzCon scenario, as they’ll have a “stream safe game soundtrack song that can be freely streamed on Twitch, YouTube and anywhere else without being blocked or losing monetization,” so those co-streaming the event can rest easy. (Including us, whew.)
After the events that unfold with Kickoff Live!, there will be even more action on June 11th. First off, at 12 PM EDT, Keighley will return to host Geeked Week, alongside the streaming team at Netflix. It’s here that we’ll see some geek-oriented programming premieres, including a first look at the animated Cuphead show, as well as the second season of The Witcher, which is on par to premiere sometime later this year. There should be other surprises as well.
In addition, Koch Media will host Koch Primetime, starting at 3 PM EDT. During this time, they’ll reveal what they’re working on next, though they already made it clear that the showcase won’t include Dead Island 2, Timesplitters or Saints Row V. However all the more room for a return of 50 Cent: Blood On the Sand, right?
Aside from that, the site will be host to the other E3 showcases, including Ubisoft Forward, Devolver Digital, Xbox + Bethesda, Square Enix Presents, a Back 4 Blood showcase from Warner Bros., and the Steam Next Fest, airing on June 16th. You’re gonna be getting a lot of gaming goodness these next few days, so get ready!
